The Great Wall Indeed...
Holy crap, this movie was absolutely freaking fantastic!
I honestly can’t find anything wrong with this movie, so I’m not going to search for a reason.
This film had me hooked from beginning to end, without any question!
I remember watching the trailer when it was announced and I thought, “Wow..can’t wait!”
The cast first of all was astounding and beautifully chosen.
You have Matt Damon (famously known for his role as Jason Bourne), Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones’ Oberyn Martell) Willem Dafoe, Andy Lau and many others. The acting from the entire cast was amazing and I loved how they presented the Chinese culture; the weaponry, costuming, scenery and most of all, the Great Wall. Although they were digitally enhanced shots for the film, just knowing that, that’s what it once looked like in all its glory and magnificence…was breathtaking.
But it also makes you wonder, if that’s what it was truly built for? Not just keeping enemies at bay, but from keeping the unknown entities out as well. Who knows. Ancient cultures hold so many secrets; some of which we will never know about!
The creature concept too, was an interesting tale to thrown into the film. They were grotesque but so life like and in a way made sense. The whole story of their origins; creatures springing to life from the bowels of the Earth only to resurface every 60 years could hold a lot of truth. Who really knows?
Everything blended together perfectly and I couldn’t have loved it more.
I’m fascinated with the ancient Chinese culture but this and many other movies really excite me. Maybe it stems from a past life, I don’t know.
If you’re looking for a good movie to watch that involves some amazing fight sequences, creature animation and just plain good acting, then I highly recommend this film.
My rating of THE GREAT WALL is a fantastic 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
