NBC Awoke Old Blood...

As a vampire fan and author of vampires of which I stated before, when it comes to this particular race or genre, vampires have to be portrayed correctly or they’re just going to sound like blood drinking humans.

This series that wasn’t renewed for a second season, ended with Dracula reuniting with the love his life who was nothing more than his wife’s doppleganger set in a steampunk London era.

When I originally read that this series would be airing on NBC back in October 2013…I was anxious to see this portrayal of the original vampire, Dracula and the actor they cast for the role…was absolutely brilliant.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers is among my favorite actors and he ruled the part, bringing his amazing talent to the screen and series. If it weren’t for him, I probably wouldn’t have watched it but I’m glad I did.

His story begins with him posing as an American industrialist, trying to take over London with his wireless electricity machine which an elite group of men part of the order known as The Order of the Dragon, (TOFTD) weren’t too pleased about for his wireless electricity would put their oil business, well…out of business, and ruin their plans to rule over London.

Funny, that last sentence reminds me of an evil character from my books, trying to do the same thing in a sense. Anyway, let’s get back to the review.

Dracula (Jonathan) is having his fun, playing with his prey; a group of Hunters including one annoying British woman, Jane who thinks she’s all that because she’s the top Huntress…or excuse me, Huntsman. There’s no femininity there. Although the concept’s a little boring, I enjoyed the story just the same.

My heart went out to Dracula who fell in love with Mina; his wife’s doppleganger and watching that love story unfold was sort of the best part for every vampire needs that one-in-a-lifetime-kind-of-love which he found for the second time in his eternal lifetime.

Although the show lacked in showing the characteristics of the vampire, the fangs were nicely formed and the somewhat fighting sequences were all right, although I’ve seen a lot better.

Toward the end of the series, TOFTD had discovered that Dracula has been right under their nose and sent out Huntsman Jane to track him down and end, although that only resulted in her own death which was the best part of the series finale for I couldn’t stand that bitch. And neither could Drac, I’m sure even though he enjoyed the sex.

Despite what the show lacked, the acting offered enough spice to keep me engaged.

As I said, I love Jonathan Rhys Meyers and can’t wait to see him in the new season of History’s Vikings, bringing his talent to that series.

My rating for NBC’s DRACULA is a forever in the shadows 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
