Dwayne-The Rock- Johnson Takes On The "Rampage"

Cast: Dwayne Johnson, Malin Akerman, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Naomie Harris and more…

Synopsis: Johnson stars as primatologist Davis Okoye, a man who keeps people at a distance but shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, incredibly rare albino silverback gorilla who has been in his care since he rescued the young orphan from poachers. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry mutates this gentle ape into a raging creature of enormous size. To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered animals. As these newly created alpha predators tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with discredited geneticist Kate Caldwell (Naomie Harris) to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.

My Review: The Rock comes to your screen once more, bringing a very entertaining film into view. I was skeptical about this film for a few reasons but after watching it, I really enjoyed it. The film begins with a damaged space station that had been attacked by a giant rat. Yes, a giant rat. Only due to an experiment gone way wrong. Typical. A crew member managed to escape through the emergency pod with the case full of the “experimental” gas-like drug only to realize the pod was damaged which sent fragments of space debris down to the Earth, along with the gas containers. Following soon after, The Rock comes into view working at a zoo where his best friend George lives. He’s an albino gorilla that speaks through sign language. I thought it was really cute because the gorilla had more personality than some people. Any way, one night, the space debris just happened to crash around the world; one being the zoo, where a curious George (see what I did there) inspected the crash site. After touching the container, a green gas spewed out. The following morning I’m guessing, George became a baby King Kong; not to mention a giant wolf bigger than a warg and a massive alligator or crocodile (I could never get the snouts right) that belonged in the prehistoric or jurassic age. Hey Jurassic World films, I think you missed this one. Although the concept of genetically modified anything was there, we’ve seen it so many times before. But this film somehow, made it work. Wow, the gas works quick and of course, as always, there was the antidote that either had to be injected (which was impossible) or eaten. Gee, I wonder of this would have worked on a human? Then, you’d have the case of the 50 foot woman…or man. Just saying. Other than this, I really enjoyed the film for it was action packed, good casting choice and amazing special effects! But, the cities they’ve destroyed along the way, would take at least quite a few decades to rebuild. I love the scene though, where the giant wolf came across its cousin, the Gold Retriever. I could have just heard the barks in English: “Hey, brotha from another motha…how you doin?” and the wolf just stares at the dog like, “….” then turns away leaving Air Bud to run away with his tail between his legs. At least thank goodness though, it didn’t eat the dog. Wouldn’t have been much of a meal or snack anyway. And the love Dwayne showed for George was sweet and the writers weren’t afraid to add that into the film either. So, anyone looking for a fun and action packed and very entertaining movie for themselves or family, I highly recommend it. It’s also family oriented which makes it fun for all ages.

My rating of Rampage is a jurassic 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
